The Breakaway, Oakland’s premier Swing Dance, is proud to announce our newest monthly Blues dance!
December Breakaway Blues!
We are back at the Veterans Memorial Hall for December 21st!
What is Blues Dancing?
Blues is a family of African American vernacular social dances danced to (surprise!) Blues music. Blues dancing can look like many things, from dancing to Chicago Blues in a crowded bar, to sweeping around a Harlem ballroom to Jazzy Blues, or stomping along on the front porch in the Mississippi Delta. Just as Blues music continues to be played all around the world today, Blues dancing can be found wherever Blues is being played. Blues music and dances have been around for more than a century, so when we learn these dances, we are drawing from a rich and varied history.
